Summary

When we joined ‘Challenging Visual Depiction of Women and Sexual Violence in Southasia’, we wanted to explore the many ways women's experiences are often misrepresented. Too often, images reinforce stereotypes, shift blame, or overlook the complexity of identity and sisterhood. Through this collaboration with the Hri Institute for Southasian Research and Exchange, we, Pallavi Payal and Sapana Sanjeevani—used our art to question these portrayals.

Our work focused on themes of stereotyping, victim blaming, identity, sisterhood, and strength—capturing the emotions and realities that often go unseen. This project allowed us to create visuals that challenge assumptions and open space for deeper conversations.
